Sunday, Sunday

Allo, allo!
So today is Sunday. Obviously.
Here is what I wore to church. Totally 80's, of course. I find that quite a bit of my more 'dressy' clothes tend to be vintage 80's.
Fine by me. I wish I could go back as an adult and enjoy some Sweet Edmond permed hair and huge sweaters!
Side-note: 'Sweet Edmond' basically means awesome. Only much awesomer. Which I know isn't actually a word.
So yes, this dress is from the 80's...sorry for the awkward pose. I was basically falling over! And for the weird braces smirk. So LAME when people do that, but I have this whole tooth issue where one is being moved and causing a hillbilly gap. Not fun for anyone to have to see that! ;)

So I paired it with some Nine West stilettos and an Urban Behavior fringed clutch. Woot-tang!
Again, seriously, I hate that weird braces smirk. Lol!
So, I need to finish some homework and read two newspapers before bed. Yes, two. A day. Every day. According to one of my instructors. Then I have to clip articles and put them in a ziplock baggie.
I'm actually really looking forward to this! What a nerd, right? ;)

Egads, I'm Tired.

So happy Saturday everyone!
This week has been a roller-coaster for me, starting Fashion School and trying to fall into a routine!
I've discovered that I'm not a fan of being in class at 8 in the morning...which means I have to leave before 7. Blargh.
I'm enjoying my classes so much, though! I have the BEST instructors and everyone needs to be jealous, thank you. ;)
For those of you who didn't know I was taking Fashion, NO, it isn't designing.
Good grief, I couldn't draw a convincing stick-man.
It's all about the business of fashion. Still creative, but no sewing required.
It's been a crazy-fun week, but a tiring one and by Friday afternoon I was ready for bed. Which is why I headed to mine for the evening at 8:45!
I hadn't been on Facebook all week and I hadn't even thought of blogging! So, today there seemed to be no excuse not to post. :)
Although I have to be honest and tell you that I only wore this outfit for a grand total of MAYBE an hour.
I got dressed, went to Wal-Mart for some paper, came home, and promptly hopped back into my pajamas!
The skirt is wayyy too big. I had to tighten that belt like there was no tomorrow! lol! I think it needs to be moved to one of my 'donate' piles. ;) But anyhow, it was from Winners a couple years ago when I was bigger. The denim shirt is from Value Village. I love that shirt! It goes with pretty much everything I own! Gah! underneath the denim I'm wearing a classic pink-striped Ralph Lauren oxford button-up. I love this also. And I wish everyone realized you can wear it with almost everything as well :)
The shoes are from Spring. They were twenty-three bucks on End-of Summer Sales.
The cat-eye glasses are from...Talize? Don't really remember, but they are 1950's fabulous :)
Just for variation, here's a different pose. lol!
Whooo. Amazing.
So, that's about it for today. I have a ton of reading to do this weekend, so I really should be doing that at the moment. :)
Hope everyone had a good Labour Day weekend and a good start to the new school year!

PINK!!!

Good Monday morning!!!
It's hard to believe that Labour Day is here and that everyone heads back to school tomorrow!
Where did the Summer go?
Yesterday was obviously Sunday, so as promised, I wore my pink dress!
I bought it at (you guess) on Saturday night, brought it home, washed it, and was sooo excited to wear it!
Seriously, from now on, maybe I shouldn't mention where I buy something unless it's NOT from Value Village! ha!
So, here it is:
I bought the shoes in Buffalo, NY.
These are possibly my favourite pair of shoes, I wear them with so many things!
They're Steve Madden and about the most comfortable pair of heels I own :)
The belt is leather and I loved the Celtic Knot look of it.
Over all, I liked how the outfit came together classy, but with an edge :D

Good luck at school tomorrow!

Brrrrrr!!!!

Ok, so I got my wish! A chilly day!
I've had this faux leather jacket in my closet for a few months now, so I was so excited to finally wear it!
We left the house around 9 AM this morning so I was happy I decided to wear a scarf!
Later in the day I was able to go without it, but this morning it was a cozy necessity!
Chilly Morning!
I bought this dress at Value Village this past Summer and I LOVE it!!
It's a bit mature, I suppose, but it's soooo comfortable and easy to throw on.
In the Summer I updated it with a belt and Steve Madden platforms. :)
I bought the moccasins at Payless about 2 weeks ago...they feel like slippers.
In fact, I think they may actually be... lol
Side-view with longer skirt in back

Scarf & bag are also from VV (I'm addicted, what can I say?)
One thing that I loved about this dress right away is how it goes longer in the back.
It's kind of romantic :)

By the way, I've made the pics bigger...since I love to be able to see everything and the smaller ones just weren't cutting it for me ;)

The dress on it's own :)

So that's it for now :)
I have lots to do tonight since tomorrow is Sunday.
Which means I go to church.
Which means I'm wearing a fantastic 80's hot pink dress!! lol!
There will def be a new post by Monday, if not tomorrow night!

Goodbye August!

September is finally here!
Which makes me soooo happy, because my favourite time of year is Fall! I love the crisp mornings and the pleasant afternoons. Not too cold, but cool enough to wear a light jacket!
I LOVE layering! I despair all summer long because it's just too hot to wear my favourite denim shirt. And sometimes, I just wear it anyway! lol!
September always excites me because I know I will soon be able to layer on the sweaters, scarfs and leather jackets to my heart's content!
But, since September only came this week, I have to wait a bit longer.
So, here is what I wore to dinner with my hubby on the last day of August.
Nothing too special, but a little sweet... and my skirt colours reflecting the weather to come :)

So here, everything except the belt is from Value Village! :)
The top is originally from American Eagle and has faded fir trees on it.
The skirt is originally from Zara. Belt is Forever21.

The shoes I just adore! Little floral peep-toe sling-backs. So cute!
So now I just have to be patient and wait for the cooler weather to arrive!
Goodbye August!!!

Vintage Curves

No, not Marilyn Monroe, although she is the go-to gal when it comes to 'curvy women'.
(Side note/rant: why does it have to be classified as 'CURVY' women? why can't it just be WOMEN?)
Anywhoo, growing up a definite pear-shape was not always fun. Especially when surrounded by the size 0 darlings of teenage-dom.
Whatevs, totally happy with it now...and often wish I could go back to my little awkward teenage self and let me know that everything is going to be okay in the end :)
Since I can't, I'm going to share the role models I acquired for myself and my body-loving mission!
Although I'm smaller now than I was in high school, I think these women are gorgeous examples of completely luscious womanhood. :)

Pear-shaped Jill
First I'll start with Jill Ireland.
I'll never forget when, at 18, I was reading Glamour and there she was; the shining example of the pear-shaped body! The light went on. That was me. A pear. One of my favourite fruits, so that's fine. ;)

Swedish-born Ann
 Next, Ann Margaret.
If you have never seen her in action, do yourself a favour!
The only woman who could ever keep up with Elvis.
Viva Las Vegas!!  <--- Click me. lol!

There are so many others, but the last for me is Jane Russell.
The woman for whom Howard Hughes invented the 12-hour bra.
12-hour Jane Russell
Gentlemen Prefer...Brunettes?
This clip is from one of my favourite movies, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which teams Jane with none other than Marilyn Monroe. Funny movie with the best songs you'll ever hear. Also, amazing, glittering 1950's fashion :)

So that's it for now. How can someone look at one of these women and call them anything but gorgeous...bombshell...perfect?

Value Village Love & First 'Blig'!!

My first blig posting!!! ...ahem, BLOG. ..I like leaving spelling errors..they make me laugh :P
I'm not really into sharing all about myself in one go, so I guess you'll have to get to know me as I post more :)
Some things I could tell you about me are...
-I looooove secondhand/vintage shopping. (As the title may have informed you!) It's great for the environment and I always feel like I'm getting something with a life when I purchase used.
-I don't have a favourite colour, band, movie, animal, designer, you name it. Which I think means I'm super eclectic. ;P
-I love big hair :)...Diana Ross, if only I could copy that hair!

I have no feet!
Carlos Santana shoes
So about the outfit in la photo...

Everything I'm wearing was purchased from Value Village, with the exception of my shoes, watch and wedding ring...and even the wedding ring is vintage :)
I never really think too hard about my outfits...or try not to. I think fashion should be fluid and come naturally. Which can mean that sometimes I look in the mirror at the end of the day and think...what the heck? LOL!
But that's ok, because I've learned something. Namely, never wear that again. ;)

I hope you stay with me and share your thoughts!!!

xo! Shannon!

PS- sorry for the shadowy pic!
