Vintage Curves

No, not Marilyn Monroe, although she is the go-to gal when it comes to 'curvy women'.
(Side note/rant: why does it have to be classified as 'CURVY' women? why can't it just be WOMEN?)
Anywhoo, growing up a definite pear-shape was not always fun. Especially when surrounded by the size 0 darlings of teenage-dom.
Whatevs, totally happy with it now...and often wish I could go back to my little awkward teenage self and let me know that everything is going to be okay in the end :)
Since I can't, I'm going to share the role models I acquired for myself and my body-loving mission!
Although I'm smaller now than I was in high school, I think these women are gorgeous examples of completely luscious womanhood. :)

Pear-shaped Jill
First I'll start with Jill Ireland.
I'll never forget when, at 18, I was reading Glamour and there she was; the shining example of the pear-shaped body! The light went on. That was me. A pear. One of my favourite fruits, so that's fine. ;)

Swedish-born Ann
 Next, Ann Margaret.
If you have never seen her in action, do yourself a favour!
The only woman who could ever keep up with Elvis.
Viva Las Vegas!!  <--- Click me. lol!

There are so many others, but the last for me is Jane Russell.
The woman for whom Howard Hughes invented the 12-hour bra.
12-hour Jane Russell
Gentlemen Prefer...Brunettes?
This clip is from one of my favourite movies, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which teams Jane with none other than Marilyn Monroe. Funny movie with the best songs you'll ever hear. Also, amazing, glittering 1950's fashion :)

So that's it for now. How can someone look at one of these women and call them anything but gorgeous...bombshell...perfect?

Value Village Love & First 'Blig'!!

My first blig posting!!! ...ahem, BLOG. ..I like leaving spelling errors..they make me laugh :P
I'm not really into sharing all about myself in one go, so I guess you'll have to get to know me as I post more :)
Some things I could tell you about me are...
-I looooove secondhand/vintage shopping. (As the title may have informed you!) It's great for the environment and I always feel like I'm getting something with a life when I purchase used.
-I don't have a favourite colour, band, movie, animal, designer, you name it. Which I think means I'm super eclectic. ;P
-I love big hair :)...Diana Ross, if only I could copy that hair!

I have no feet!
Carlos Santana shoes
So about the outfit in la photo...

Everything I'm wearing was purchased from Value Village, with the exception of my shoes, watch and wedding ring...and even the wedding ring is vintage :)
I never really think too hard about my outfits...or try not to. I think fashion should be fluid and come naturally. Which can mean that sometimes I look in the mirror at the end of the day and think...what the heck? LOL!
But that's ok, because I've learned something. Namely, never wear that again. ;)

I hope you stay with me and share your thoughts!!!

xo! Shannon!

PS- sorry for the shadowy pic!
